Birdz Blog
Bernard Allison
by The Railbirdz on 09/01/10
One of the ways we try to promote The Railbirdz out there in cyber world is through Facebook. Occasionally we post videos of the Birdz playing live at a venue in town, and in order to publish those videos we must first publish them on You Tube.
This morning we got a comment on our You Tube video of "Goodbye Little Girl" recorded at Boondocks last week, that said "Nice job fellows, that's a great tune and I am glad someone chose it.", and it was signed Bernard Allison.
OK, who is the wise guy? Turns out, nobody. After some research we verified that the comment was made by Bernard. So we thank the son of Luther and promise to do our best to do their music justice.
Check out the tune and Bernard's comments on the video here.
See you soon!!
Motor on out to Tucson Motor Show to check out the Railbirdz
by The Railbirdz on 08/28/10
The Tucson Motor Show, the largest indoor auto show in Southern Arizona, is happening next weekend at the Tucson Convention Center, and the Railbirdz will be part of the entertainment on Saturday September 4th.
The Birdz hope to see some old friends and make some new ones over the Labor Day weekend, so come on out and check out the hottest new funky blues band in the Ol' Pueblo.
See ya there!
Cooking at Boondocks
by The Railbirdz on 08/24/10
The Railbirdz first gig at the Boondocks this past Sunday, an established live music venue in Tucson, was an all around success. We'd like to thank the many friends and fans that showed up (75 in all, not bad for a Sunday night).
The dance floor was hopping all night, the Birdz fed off the crowd's enthusiasm, and the management at Boondocks took notice. Rumor has it that the Birdz will be back for a return engagement real soon.
Check back here later this week as we load up some pictures and video of the show at Boondocks.
Feel free to leave a comment if you saw us at the Boondocks!
Sky High
by The Railbirdz on 08/21/10
Last night was the Railbirdz first gig at Sky Bar, a neat little venue on 4th Ave. This being the first weekend that the University of Arizona students are in town for the fall semester, the joint was jumpin!
The crowd was big and lively and the hard working wait staff at Sky Bar kept everyone happy. Despite some early technical difficulties with the house sound system, the Birdz grooved hard.
Mike and G nailed that groove to the floor, Marty Bird lit the walls on fire with some hot guitar licks, BC told the story with his voice and guitar, and Frank worked up a sweat that soaked through his pork pie hat.
If you missed us at Sky Bar, come on out to Boondocks Sunday night for some Rhythmn and BBQ. Down beat is 6PM and we promise to get you home in time for bed at a reasonable hour.
Another Twofer Weekend!
by The Railbirdz on 08/14/10
Next weekend the Railbirdz play at two new (for us) venues in Tucson; Friday night August 20th at Skybar starting at 9:30PM and Sunday night August 22nd at Boondocks starting at 6PM.
Skybar is unique, located at 536 N. 4th Ave, and is a cafe by day and an astronomy bar by night. Boondocks, 3306 N. 1st Ave, is a well known venue in town that features live music 4 nights a week.
It's the Birdz first time at each of these venues and we are hoping to attract a respectable turnout each night so we get invited back.
SO COME ON OUT AND SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC, ESPECIALLY OURS!!!
Bye Bye Main Street, Hello Boondocks
by The Railbirdz on 08/09/10
Tucson lost another live music venue last week when the Main Street Billiards (AKA Main Street Concert and Event Center) had it's doors padlocked by an apparent Landlord Lien. Obviously our August 13th show at Main Street is cancelled but we filled in a new date at a new venue - Sunday August 22 at Boondocks.
We know it's a school night for some of you kids but the show is from 6PM - 9PM, so you can get to bed on time and start your week off right with Railbirdz Blues and Boondocks BBQ.
We will be doing some video and audio taping that night and we'd love to have you come out and make some noice, fill up the dance floor, and generally have a good time with us.
Stay tuned!
Rain, Rain, Stay Away, at least for a few hours Friday night
by The Railbirdz on 07/28/10
The problem with booking an outdoor gig in Tucson in July and August at 5:30PM is that the forecast ALWAYS calls for rain (not pPain, like the Robert Cray tune).
The Railbirdz return to the Tucson Racquet Club Friday Night BBQ this Friday, July 30th, from 5:30PM - 8:30PM - hopefully. We'll be checking the weather forecasts during the day and will make a decision by mid afternoon. You can check back on the web site during the day and find out if we're going to play or not.
Thanks!
A Fun Weekend!
by The Railbirdz on 07/12/10
The Railbirdz first ever "twofer" weekend was a blast, as confirmed by all 5 Birdz. All of the guys in the band have been playing music for a while and we've all been in bands where during a gig you look at your watch and say "another 20 minutes??!!"
Not The Railbirdz though. We all have such a great time playing music together and watching the audience groove right along with us, that time flys! Both nights we ended up playing two long sets to cover the three hour shows.
Thanks to all our friends, old and new, who came out to see us this weekend. Next gig is July 30th back at TRC, and we are working on some new venues - so stay in touch!
A Hot Time at Tucson Racquet Club
by The Railbirdz on 07/10/10
The weather was hot and the music was burnin' at the Tucson Racquet Club Friday Night BBQ last night!
Temps at the start of the 5:30PM show were in the low 100's but some clouds rolled in and the breeze picked up and it cooled off, probably all the way down to 95 by the second set! TRC served up the burgers, dogs, and chicken with all the sides and the Railbirdz served up some smokin' hot R&B with a dash of Sol, er Soul.
Next up is Main Street Concert and Event Center tonight starting at 8:30PM. Rumor has it that there will be at least one birthday celebration in the house tonight, maybe even more. Come on out and celebrate the Monsoon Season with the Railbirdz!
Bird Sightings Around Tucson
by The Railbirdz on 07/08/10
If you frequent locations that feature live music around Tucson, you might see a Railbird or three playing in some other musical endeavors.
Mike Bird, the bird behind the tubs, plays in several other projects around town, including The Swigs, Kari Shaff and her Gentlemen Friends, The Tone Monkeys, and Ergologic. Check out Mike's other projects on his MySpace page.
Gary Bird has an established reputation as a guitarist and vocalist and plays a couple of venues in Tucson regularly. Check out Gary weekly at Skybox restaurant and Sir Vesa's, and you can see his schedule on his web site.
Frank Bird sits in occasionally with the Bryan Dean Trio at their Monday Night Meatloaf Blues Show at Bookdocks.
BC Bird occasionally sits in with Demonsoon and Marty Bird can be seen periodically at the Tucson Musician's Club member showcases at O'Malley's.
This weekend, July 9 and 10, come on out to see us all together as the Railbirdz play Tucson Racquet Club and Main Street Concert and Event Center!
